NEWSLETTER JUNE 1996
AMERICAN NORWICH SOCIETY TO RECRUIT
REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES
In order to better keep in touch with Norwich fanciers we would like to begin a new program. This
program involves getting volunteers from each part of the United States and the various countries
where our members and their canaries live. If we only have a few volunteers, then the regions they
represent will be large. We hope to involve more of our members by doing this - we'd like to see the
regional reports add a more personal touch to our newsletter. The regional representatives would also
be responsible for seeing that local shows and judges have a complete understanding of the Norwich
and its show standards as well as promoting ANS. If you would like to volunteer or nominate
someone for your area please write to Will Burdett at 7338 Cedar Creek Court, Winter Park, FL
32792 or call (800) 869-0007 (after 5pm use ext. 4762).
We are pleased to announce that we already have one victim - er - volunteer to represent the state of
California - or at least the L.A. area. ANS thanks Brian Allen for becoming our first regional
representative. To give you all an idea of what we are looking for in a report please read on...
The L.A. Show was held on November 10-12 hosted by the American Canary Fanciers Association (ACFA). There were 33 Norwich entered at the show. The following are the results of the Norwich division:
Best Norwich - Clear Buff, Ralph Tepedino, Los Angeles, CA
2nd Best - Clear Buff, Ronald Pezzuti, Las Vegas, NV
3rd Best - Cinnamon, Fritz Hess, Los Angeles, CA
The ACFA is the fastest growing canary club in California. We are an all canary club based in Los
Angeles with a membership of approxiamately 120 and growing. We pride ourselves on a warm and
friendly enviroment where friendship, knowledge and experience is shared between our members
regardless of whether you are a hobbyist or a serious breeder. Our club officers are enthusiastic and
dedicated to improving the fancy and building a healthy and enjoyable club. I am also happy to share
with you that we have a growing number of breeders who are striving to improve the quality of the
NORWICH PLAINHEAD. Our 1995 show approached 600 canaries with an excellent showing in
the Norwich section. The ACFA members that also belong to the ANS would like to take this
opportunity to thank the ANS for their efforts in the improvement and promotion of the Norwich
canary.
Brian Allen - V.P. ACFA

T - NOTES
There are still copies available of Joe Bracegirdle's book The Norwich Canary . The cost is $15 plus
$2 for postage. It is a good book that gives a lot of general canary information, has some very nice
photographs of winning Norwich. There is a particularly interesting chapter on the egg and its
development into a chick.
We'd like to welcome Gary and Patricia Dempsey of Phoenix, AZ, Faser Hardin from New York, NY,
Jeri Peterson of Horseshoe, NC, Hugo Ruiz from Forest Hills, NY, Michael Sparks of Gresham, OR,
and Patsy Strickland from Milford, OH as new members of ANS.
Incidentally, Patsy Strickland is currently working on a new design for an ANS pin. If you have any
suggestions please give Patsy a call at (513) 831-1643. Thanks to Patsy for volunteering to do this!
ANS is still trying to get an all Norwich Division at Nationals. If you want to help, please write one
or more members of the Board of Directors for Nationals. ANS is proud to be a sponsor for the
Norwich section and the Type Division for the 1996 Nationals in Detroit.
I have only heard from a few of our members about their breeding season. Viviana Sanchez told me
that she was having a very good breding season this year, Francis Martin is just now getting eggs,
Brian Allen is almost finished with his season, and we have only two chicks so far but 5 more due
to hatch May 22. Drop us a line and tell us how your breeding season went.
